Gallery 5 | Edge of Thing | Works by Lucy Kirkman Allen
Opening reception October 15, 2016 7:00-9:00pm
October 15-November 12, 2016
#FFFHEX contemporary art gallery is pleased to announce Edge of Thing, an exhibition of paintings by Lucy Kirkman Allen. Allen’s series of still lifes attest to her close attention to the history of art. In works with flat trompe-l’oeil facsimiles of art ephemera such as stamps and postcards, Allen references works from Greek marbles to American modernism with a nod to Sherrie Levine. The painted image joins dimensional space in her piece Moonlit Couple on the Beach, depicting an open book of Winslow Homer’s watercolors. Allen also explores the convention of the Dutch and French floral still life in recent works from observation.
Lucy Kirkman Allen (born 1986, Virginia) received her BFA from The Cooper Union in New York City and was a Harriet Hale Woolley Scholar at the Fondation des Etats-Unis in Paris, France. She has shown recently at the Seattle Art Fair with Galleri Urbane, the Dallas Biennial, the Dallas Contemporary, University of Texas at Austin, Angstrom Gallery, Homeland Security and New Age Drinks. Her work in painting and curating have been covered in publications such as Art in America, Glasstire, FDLuxe Magazine, /seconds, the Dallas Observer, and THRWD Magazine.
